Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
In 1916 the German minister of war carried out a “Jew census” to discover whether or not Jews were “shirkers”!. When the contrary proved the case, the German government refused to release the figures!. That was 17 years before the Nazi takeover of January 31, 1933, the day Hitler (Yemach shmau v’gaualau) was appointed Chancellor of Germany!. At that time there were 580,000 Jews in Germany!. In the 1930’s the German population was about 65 million, of whom the Jews constituted less than one percentWww@QuestionHome@Com

That`s a hard question to answer, because the answer is a moving target; the borders were changing as territory (and population) was gained, then lost, plus soldiers and victims of the Reich and civilians which became victims of allied attacks and blanket bombing made the demographic figures keep changing very dynamically!. You can at least get population statistics from this webpage:
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Weimar_Repu!.!.!.
saying there were 62,411,000 people there in 1925, before the ww2!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mardi's right, but should be noted that German pop!. was 65M in 1935;
87M in 1939!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
