Koshu, your source does not say that iron smelting originated in sub-saharan africa!. At best it says that ancient iron ore has been found in that region!. Iron working worldwide has a proven provinance starting with the middle east or India and spreading out from there!.
The article even states that the experts are divided over whether it was an independant discovery or a diffusion from North Africa via Morocco!.
