Natural oils from olives, fish, goose livers, and such have been used since the Greeks to lubricate devices!. That's not new!.

Using petroleum dates back to Pennsylvania in the late 1800s, although oil or grease was probably used to lubricate the parts of a steam locomotive!. In fact, grease was DEFINITELY used to lubricate the axles on wagons (on an old Conestoga, you can see the grease pot dangling from the rear axle in some photos)!.

Early 20th century; earlier cars used electricity or steam power!. First major oil find was in Penn!.

Took much longer to discover use of natural gas, which was once burned off as a waste product at oil wells!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
