yeah I know its how it started!! lol its so gross isnt it!? i wish ppl learned more about our roots in our ancestors/primates as it is fascinating helps us get things into perspective, and understand ourselves as humans!.

There are also scent glands under the eyes that scientists think help us to "smell" our mate and assess our biological compatability with them!.!.!.!.when kissing, we would be very close to these!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

some more information to this topic

Anthropologists have not reached a consensus as to whether kissing is a learned or an instinctive behavior!. Kissing may lead to sexual behaviors!. It may be related to grooming behavior also seen between other animals, or arising as a result of mothers premasticating food for their children!.[1] When mammalian mothers kiss infants, their bodies automatically recognize biological dangers to their offspring, and their bodies add resistant proteins to their milk!. Kissing allows prospective mates to smell and taste each other's pheromones for biological compatibility!. Women are subconsciously more attracted to men whose major histocompatibility complex portion of their genome is different from their own, leading to offspring with resistance to a greater number of diseases due to heterosis, and thus having a better chance of survival!.[2] [3] [4] This explains why couples are more likely to bond if they have the right "chemistry!."[citation needed]

Non-human primates also exhibit kissing behavior!.[5] Other than primates there are also animals, particularly many species of birds that exhibit beak-to-beak and mouth-to-mouth behavior which is typically interpreted by observers as kissing!. Dogs, cats, and other animals display licking and grooming behavior among themselves, but also towards humans or other species!. This is sometimes interpreted by observers as a type of kissing, but some may see this as anthropomorphising the actions of animals!.

Well, it's highly speculative, but if you look at the social interactions of the great apes, our closest relatives, passing items mouth to mouth is a common form of bonding - reinforcement!. Mouths and lips are very sensitive, and so it is an intimate and sensual act!.

One alternative theory I read was that potential mates are literally tasting each other - tasting for a healthy digestive system free from rotting teeth and bad breath and other signs that this might not be someone you want to share your genes with!Www@QuestionHome@Com

How cool!. It seems obvious now when you think of it, but it isn't something I ever considered before!.

You can chew my food if you ask nicely! (Joking my friend, don't assume I am some sexist or perv!)
