Question: What role did Shiite Islam play in Safavid Persia!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Safavid Persia was a Shi'ite country!. The Ottoman Empire in the West was primarily Sunni as were most Muslims in general!. Safavid Persia, therefore, provided a bastion of Shi'ism in the Islamic world!. This meant, within the Persian Empire, there was a sense of isolation and conflict with the rest of the Muslim World!. also, the founder of the Safavid Dynasty, Ismail I, forced the Sunnis of Persia to convert to Shi'ism!. As a result, Iran is still an officially Shi'ite Muslim country!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
