This is a fairly easy question as the 13 original colonies were under British rule when they rebelled in 1775!. With the Declaration of Independence, written in 1776, the former British citizens broke with the crown!. Therefore, and particularly since the colonists had an army in the field to militarily oppose the British, the answer is "B" -- traitors to the crown, which is what they were!. If the U!.S!. lost the Revolutionary War, the signers would have been hanged by British officers as traitors!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Either in the Declaration or Constitution the signers pledged their lives, their fortunes and thei sacred honor!. This is not glib rhtorics!. They literally and sincerely put there lives at risk!. So B is your answer!. They could have easily been caught and hanged within days!. Would anyone pledge such a thing today!? I think our brave military do that and we don't often enough think about it or regonize it!.
