Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Reenacting is very important at bringing to life the history of the United States!. Fighting oppressive regimes is a big part of American history!. But to do it historically requires someone to be the bad guys!. I know a lot of people who do WWII German Wehrmacht, SS, and Luftwaffe and not one of them believes in the Propaganda of that time!. They do it to provide a foil for the good guys and provide an accurate enemy for them to go against!.

I know one guy who portrays 1900's IRA yet he has no desire to fight in Belfast or attack British citizens!. He just wants people to see that terrible time in Irish history!.

To do reenacting well you just have to read, research, and understand the past!. You never have to believe in evil to represent it!. Just be aware that it existed!.

Like any other historical reenactors I have a great deal of respect for their patience and attention to detail!. If you're making some comment about them recreating units from Nazi Germany's army, so what!? It is relavent to history and the memory should be preserved!. As long as they don't promote the Nazi ideology and limit themselves to Wehrmacht units I don't see why anyone would have an objection!. While the war was not right and the Nazi atrocities should not be overlooked, the Wehrmacht itself had much to be proud of in terms of their own performance, if not their national leadership!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If I ever did that I'd do an SS impression because I've always liked the uniforms they wore!. I don't believe for one minute that most of the guys who re-enact the Germans do it just so an enemy can take the field, they do it because they like the uniforms and the bravery of the actual men back then even if they were the enemy!.
You think the guys who dress up as Imperial stormtroopers from star wars do it so that all the teenaged jedi wannabes can have someone to kill with their lightsabres!? Hardly!. It's a hobby, but it also recognises the skills of the people back then regardless of what their political ideologies were!.
No one asks Roman re-enactors if they think crucifying people is good, time to stop thinking that people who do SS re-enactment are actually nazis!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
