the problem that the Mexican War caused is that Mexico had to cede California and New Mexico!. at this time the U!.S!. had an even number of slave and free states and in turn an even representation in the senate!. the problems arose when talks of California entering the Union caused people to worry about the balance of power!. the South thought that this might lead to the abolition of slavery!. manifest destiny played a role because when California became a territory the U!.S!. saw it as a sign that they should expand coast to coast!. this in turn led to Bleeding Kansas as Kansas sought statehood and and whether or not they would enter as a slave or a free state!. this issue of a state's right to choose led directly to the Civil War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
