Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Sir Thomas More, a personal friend of Henry, didn't actually speak out against the King but rather declined to give an opinion on Henry's break with Rome!. He did refuse to sign a request to the Pope to annul Henry's marriage to Catherine of Aragon, but did swear an oath declaring the King the Supreme Head of the English Church "as far as the law of Christ allows" in 1531, after which he tried to resign as Lord Chancellor!. Henry refused to accept it!. The following year he claimed ill health and Henry granted his request!.

In 1553 he declined an invitation to the King's wedding to Anne Boleyn!. More had written to Henry acknowledging Anne's queenship and expressing his desire for his happiness, but his friendship with the old queen, Catherine of Aragon, still prevented him from attending Anne's triumph!. His refusal to attend Anne Boleyn's coronation was widely interpreted as a snub against Anne!.
He was asked to swear allegiance to the Act of Succession, which led with an anti-Papal preface!. He gave no answer!.

He was imprisoned in the Tower on the 17th April 1553 and charged with high treason on the 1st July!. As usual with those found guilty of treason he was sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered, but Henry commuted it to a simple beheading!. This took place on Tower Green on the 6th July!. His head was placed on London Bridge!.

It took 4 monarchs following Henry before England became settled and a force to be reckoned with in Europe once again!.
Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey (only 9 days), Mary I and finally Elizabeth I who restored order to a nation under religious strife and became a semi - mythical figure in English history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
