Question: Who REALLY is the richest person in history!?
I know here http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/List_of_mos!.!.!. says its Rockefeller and its accurate to a degree!. However I would believe someone like Queen Victoria or Caesar would be richer because empires meant someone like Caesar would be owners of the entire empire!. As with Queen Victoria the entirity of all the colonies etc!.!.!. would be "officially" the personal wealth of the monarch given it was an autocracy in most cases all the law was to their favor too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on how you select the sample!.
As you say, it would some one who commanded control of a nation, and could use its funds as personal funds!. Napoleon did this!. the Romanovs did this!. the Saudis do this today!.etc!. All ancient autocrats did this since there was no distinction between public and private, or one that could stand against a ruler!.

At this point selecting one person is irrelevant: It is a sum beyond practical measure or personal use!. Hence, does it matter who has got the biggest surplus!?

As Bacon said, "Behind every great forture lies a great crime!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

that is why Rockefeller is the richest person in HISTORY so meaning, he has the most wealth recorded!. we can't really say that the monarchs you have mentioned are richer than Rockefeller because Rockefeller's business is talking about oil!. besides, wealth of the country is not entirely the belonging of its rulers!. They were just rulers, not really owners of the wealth of the empire!. i know this would be a long debate but we must consider every fact we get and not just simply believe that if you are powerful, you are the richest!. power is different from wealth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The question is impossible to answer given the changes that have occured in society!. Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world!. Nowadays, this would include the oil reserves of the Middle East, as well as other resources not yet discovered!. This would probably make him retrospectively the wealthiest!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
