Well Judaism and Christianity come from the same mold, really, so the connection is almost more Judaism than Christianity!.

The Bible begins with humanity in trouble!. The world is created, the plants and animals are created, people are created, and told not to do one thing, and one thing only, and they went and did it!. So, they got punished, by a personal God, in control of all things, rather than different gods who were responsible for particular parts of the universe!.

Expand this principle into the relationship between people!. We have a government, which is responsible for our safety in virtually all things!. One government, which reflects the single God!.

In Exodus, Leviticus and Deuterotomy, we have a code of laws handed down, by God once again!. The single being, in charge of all things, explaining how we should live with one another and with him!. The rules are set down and the penalties are established (in the later books, Exodus just sets down the principles)!.

In our systems of government, we have a single body of laws, which conform to a given set of principles!. These are set down so that we can see them!. They are tangible, not arbitrary!. We have the rules set down and we know what they are, if we transgress, we knew what the consequences would be!.

In the west, there are set rules and set consequences for breaking the rules!. It's a principle of action and reaction!. In other parts of the world, there are consequences as well!. They may be less tangible, the principle of karma for instance, and the gradual movement toward and away from Buddhahood, depending on one's actions, but the consequences remain!.

For the west, the consequences are usually swift and definite!.
An eye for an eye!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
