Question: How did slavery in the new colonies develop!?
Slavery has often been treated as a marginal aspect of history, confined to southern or African American history!. Slavery provided the labor force for a high-pressure profit-making capitalist system of plantation agriculture producing cotton, sugar, coffee, and cocoa for distant markets!. Slavery started in the new colonies when poor english people came to the new world during the the Great Migration!. english people that settled in the Chesapeake area would sign agreements to be laborers for owners, in exchange for freedom in a certain # of years!. These english people were used to pick and grow Tobacco in Virginia!. Most of these people died before their contracts were up for their freedom, and owners therefore turned to black slaves!. but slavery involving blacks first started in Portugal in the 1400s!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
