I used to hate history because there were so many dates to remember!. The names are also confusing unless you make a connection to the role they played in history!. The list you made of names is just that!. These were real people just as you and me!. They lived in a different time and saw life from am entirely different perspective!.
Making a connection between the centuries that these individuals were part of and their notable doings would make this more clear!. Agree or not!?

While taking history in High school we spend a lot of time on names and dates!. In college we talked about what changed and why the change happened!. I would spend time studying the ones that made a difference!.

Rather than list names (which are bound to repeat!) look to learn:
Who were the artists!?
Who won the prizes!? (Nobel, Literary, etc)
Who won the elections or inherited the thrones!?
Who made a difference (revolutionaries)!?
Who were the tyrants!?
Who were the philanthropists or kind hearted!? (Vanderbilts or Gahndi or Mother Theresa for example)
Who would be the best example of each faith or culture!?
Who changed the way we think or see things!?
Consider the works of artists, authors and poets-- their work reflects the culture in which they lived and shows what was held in reverence!. Good luck and enjoy the search! One of the things I loved about college was taking the Humanities courses alongside Art history-- you learn all about these brilliant people who went before us!. Whats harder though is coming up with a list of similar thinkers in our own era!.!.!.We seem to be suffering a frightening shortage of "good guys!."Www@QuestionHome@Com
