Washington D!.C!. Thank you for calling it the War of Northern Agression!. Might I comment about another user who said that it was only called the War of Northern Agression in Virginia!? We proud southerners, not just those from Virginia, call it the war of Northern Agression!. I'm orginially from South Carolina and have family and friends all around the South and those who believe in the Confederacy call it the War of Northern Agression!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Y'all must be a southerner by your remarks in your question!. I know that Mr!. Lincoln was indeed scared to venture far from the front door step as there were many threats upon his very life!. The Yankee's was scared for the longest time following the war as well!. Washington D!.C, was were he trembled through out the war as did many other high ranking Yankee officials did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lincoln divided his time between the Executive Mansion (usually referred to as "the White House") and the Soldier's Home!. This was in the northern suburbs of the Federal District, and was the only form of retirement from the service (which was why Winfield Scott was still in uniform after 53 years of service)!. Lincoln felt comfortable there!. Someone tried to shoot Lincoln as he returned downtown, alone, from one of his stays at the Soldier's Home, putting a round through his hat!.

According to the Official Records, published by the US government - the "O!. R!.", cited in any book about the war pretending to any historical accuracy, it is actually "The Official Records of the War of the Rebellion"!.

Civil War is what its often referred to as, though this is a misnomer, because a civil war is where two groups contend for control of one country!. There was nothing in the Constitution making the Union perpetual, nor anything prohibiting secession, which was first proposed by the New England states at the Hartford Convention in 1815!. But by then the War of 1812 was over and they were very fat from their treasonable trade supplying the British forces, which was the only reason the British were able to subsist their forces in the North American area, so they let the matter drop!. Seen in that light, the forcible prevention of southern secession might reasonably be considered the war of northern aggression!. Its certainly a more apt description than "civil war"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The White House mostly, though he did spend time at the Soldier's Home, which has recently been restored and is available for scheduled tours starting this year!.

The first is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC
the second is at the intersection of Rock Creek Church Road, NW and Upshure Street, NW, Washington!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
