Question: Are we screwed!?
What if our past discoveries have gotten in the way or distracted us from discovering something better or more beneficial!? What if the path (education of past discoveries) we are building upon right now is not the best path we could have taken and there was a better one!? Could past discoveries risked us from discovering something better!?

Thank you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Although procedures vary from one field of inquiry to another, identifiable features distinguish scientific inquiry from other methodologies of knowledge!. Scientific researchers propose hypotheses as explanations of phenomena, and design experimental studies to test these hypotheses!. These steps must be repeatable in order to dependably predict any future results!. Theories that encompass wider domains of inquiry may bind many hypotheses together in a coherent structure!. This in turn may help form new hypotheses or place groups of hypotheses into context!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

So, you're suggesting that we should disregard past discoveries and make different ones, only to disregard them as well!?

Without past discoveries many of the things we use every day would not be possible!. There is an order of progression that has to be followed in order to arrive at certain things!. And every discovery has branches that lead off in different directions, it's not a fixed line, but a series of overlapping branches!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Without studying past mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them!.

If you're looking upon history as a path to follow, then yes, you're right, you're barking up the wrong tree!. But if you're looking at history to teach us was has and has not worked and use it as a stepping stone, then you will best proceed!.

Ben Franklin failed 2000 times when trying to make a lightbulb!. He did not say he failed 2000 times!. He said he found 2000 ways NOT to make a lightbulb!.

(eventually he got it)Www@QuestionHome@Com

We might be screwed!. Originally our country ran off wind and hydro power!. When oil and it's uses were discovered work on wind and water power all but disappeared!. In the 1970s when OPEC stopped the oil from flowing our country ground to a stand still and major research was being done to find an alternative to oil!. OPEC saw this as a threat and quickly started the oil flowing again effectively eliminating any cost benefit from any other source other then oil!. If gas costs $1 a gallon and corn ethanol costs $3 why buy ethanol!.

Maybe if we never discovered oil we would be energy independent right now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Every choice we make leads our society on a new path, and there is no way to tell whether those untrodden paths would have been more beneficial to our future than the one we are on!.

All our choices are based on history and past experience, but it depends on your own perception of the past and your own experience as to whether alternatives seem better than our reality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yea, Gunner, but it is a valid argument!!!

"What if" is something EVERYONE thinks about!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Post hoc ergo proctor hoc" [because of this then that] is faulty logic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I guess we will never know!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
