I've never thought of that!. If memory serves, she wasn't there, but I could be wrong and, anyway, yours is a "What if!?" question, so let's say she were!. Of course, he would have been horribly traumatized, and there were all those kids to raise!. Maybe he would have remarried!. He was only in his 40s!. To me, the real question is: Would he have continued to run for the Democratic nomination for president!? You don't hear about this anymore, but, the fact is that RFK entered the race only after Gene McCarthy's run forced LBJ to give up running for another full term!. People were extremely mad at RFK for being a late-coming opportunist, going after stealing the nomination from McCarthy (truth be told, I was one of them)!. But, he would have gotten a huge sympathy vote had Ethel Kennedy been shot dead so, after a decent interval, maybe he would have kept running!. If so, he very likely would have gotten the nomination in Chicago!. The only analogy we have is John Edward's continuing the race after his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer!.
