Question: If mankind has landed on the moon in 1969, how come there is no other moon-landing mission for nearly 40 years
What was the problems!? Was the moon-landing in 1969 a big lie!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
1) Twelve 12 American astronauts have walked on the moon!.

Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 12: Pete Conrad & Alan Bean
Apollo 13: << failed to land on the moon >>
Apollo 14: Alan Shepard & Edgar (Ed) Mitchell
Apollo 15: David Scott & James Irwin
Apollo 16: John Young & Charles Duke
Apollo 17: Eugene (Gene) Cernan & Harrison Schmidt

2) Why haven't we been back!?

a) American astronauts visited the moon on six occasions!.

b) The "moon race" was an extension of the cold war!. It was mostly about national prestige!. We got there first and achieved our primary objective!. There was some good science: surveys, measurements, sample collection!. But it was mostly about being there first!. Once we achieved our primary objective, there was no political will to go back!. There still isn't!. Perhaps, if we discover He3 or something else valuable, there will be!.

c) I used to travel to Crested Butte, Colorado every year to ski!. Because I don't go anymore, does it mean that I never went!?

3) You're insinuating that the U!.S!. government scammed everyone!?

In 1972, there was a politically motivated burglary of a hotel room in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D!.C!. There were only about six or eight people who knew about it!. However, those people, including Richard M!. Nixon, the President of the United States, failed to keep that burglary a secret!. It exploded into a scandal that drove the President and a number of others from office!.

If six or eight people couldn't keep a hotel room burglary a secret, then how could literally 400,000 thousand scientists, technicians and private contractors keep their mouths shut about six faked moon landings!? Not just one moon landing, but six of them!

4) What about the USSR!?

Even if NASA and other government agencies could have faked the six moon landings well enough to fool the general public, they could NOT have fooled the space agency or military intelligence types in the USSR!. The Soviets were just dying to beat us!. If the landings were faked, the Soviets would have re-engineered their N-1 booster and landed on the moon just to prove what liars Americans are!. Why didn't they!? Because the landings were real and the Soviets knew it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Soviets actually sent a couple of rover (Lunakhod) missions up there in the early 70s, but there hasn't been anything since!. I think the main answer is that we've been there and done that, and more importantly we learned that there isn't much there in the way of resources for us to exploit!. Interestingly though, there is recent talk of returning for something called helium 3 which is a very potent source of energy!. It would still be very hard to exploit, but if our energy issues continue to get worse here it may become worth the trip in the future!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. Too expensive!.
2!. What's the point, we already beat the commies!
3!. Don't we have better things to do!? Like unmanned deep-space probes!?

So we just used our cash on stuff like Voyager!. And then we got the Shuttle!. But anyone who claims we never reached the moon is an idiot!. Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee all died for us to reach the moon!. And we spent billions!. Doubting Apollo 11 is like denying the holocaust, strictly the realm of fools!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's been done, it's very expensive, and there's no really good reason to go back!. When NASA went the shuttle route, it was a conscious decision to do other things instead, and their budget went in a different direction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There was no point!. They had gone as far as they could with the technology they had and had learned what they needed to know about the moon!. When the next mission landed there, 40 years later, they had a whole different agenda!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There were a few more manned missions to the moon after 1969, but they were no longer a priority as the seventies wore on, and as public interest dwindled!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We already know what's there !. !. !. nothing ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

We also had landings in 1970 and 1972!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We were never invited backWww@QuestionHome@Com

Loss of public interestWww@QuestionHome@Com
