Question: Stalingrad!?
was stalingrad hitlers dunkirkWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Yes!. German troops forced the British to abandon Dunkirk!. The German troops had to abandon Stalingrad, (I think it's now called Volgograd - even the Soviet Union could bow to political correctness)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

depends how you look at it!. arguments can be made that germany could have won against the ussr after stalingrad, and still had the chance of doing so until kursk!. the difference is that britain was on the winning side despite dunkirk (which was actually a successful operation, it was more the whole campaign in france that was the disaster), whereas germany proved unable to recover from its defeat at stalingrad!. britain got militarily stronger after dunkirk, germany just got progressively weaker after stalingrad!. ultimately the answer to this question depends on how you look at it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi B!.I!.O!.
The Battle of Stalingrad is considered by many historians to have been the turning point in World War Two in Europe!. The battle at Stalingrad bled the German army dry in Russia and after this defeat, the Germany Army was in full retreat!. One of the ironies of the war, is that the German Sixth Army need not have got entangled in Stalingrad!. Army Groups A and B were well on their way to the Caucasus in south-west Russia, when Hitler ordered an attack on Stalingrad!. From a strategic point of view it would have been unwise to have left a major city unconquered in your rear as you advanced!. However, some historians believe that Hitler ordered the taking of Stalingrad simply because of the name of the city and Hitler's hatred of Joseph Stalin!. For the same reason Stalin ordered that the city had to be saved!.
The failure of the German Army was nothing short of a disaster!. A complete army group was lost at Stalingrad and 91,000 Germans were taken prisoner!. With such a massive loss of manpower and equipment, the Germans simply did not have enough manpower to cope with the Russian advance to Germany when it came!.
Despite resistance in parts, they were in retreat on the Eastern Front from February 1943 on!. In his fury, Hitler ordered a day’s national mourning in Germany, not for the men lost at the battle, but for the shame von Paulus had brought on the Wehrmacht and Germany!. Paulus was also stripped of his rank to emphasis Hitler’s anger with him!. Hitler commented:
"The God of War has gone over to the other side!."
Ok!. B!.O!.I!.!. I tried to be brief but !.as you can see it takes me a while to get to the point!.
I hope this helps!.
Good luck my friend,

As a Brit, I think you are drawing a wrong comparison!. After our defeat at Dunkirk, Britain recovered and went on to victory!. Germany never did recover from the defeat at Stalingrad, and went on to eventual defeat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Dunkirk was where the British snatched a victory of sorts from defeat!.

Stalingrad was an overwhelming blow to the Nazi Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front from which they never recovered!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No , Hitler saved nothing from Stalingrad!. The German Sixth Army was totally wiped out!.
At Dunkirk the British managed to save most of the trapped British and French soldiersWww@QuestionHome@Com
