Question: Why do germans feel guilty about nazis attoricities !?

I know what the Nazis did was really bad

but the british dont feel guilty about thier colonial history and millions which died as a result of starvation and forced labour just as teh french dont feel guilty about smuggling wheat out of colonies

or the americans dont feel guilty about the slave trader !?

why is it illigal to display a nazi flag in germany

Its not a great thing to know what your Grandfather did if he was involved in mass murder!.!. The Nazi flag is banned all over the westerrn World because its a symbol of an organization that murdered and terrorised countless Millions!.!.!.
The British deffo have Blood on their hands and that was down to ignorance and greed and power and they should be ashamed of their history!. Many people were murdered by the British in their pursuit of their Empire !.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think nations such as America and Britain are aware of the atrocities they have committed in their history!. It maybe that as there are people still who living survived or perpetrated the crimes committed under the Nazi flag it’s perhaps still more raw in the pubic mind!. Where as while the Americans and British are still living with the consequences of the slave trade it is a more ‘historic’ event!.

The reason for this is that even prior to the Holocaust, there was a lot of dormant anti semitism in Germany!. That's why Hitler was so easily able to get the Germans to help him exterminate the Jews!.

And today, in Germany, there is still a neo Nazi movement that, if it could, would seize power!. That's why Germany has to be extra vigilant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they feel guilty because it's part of their history and thaey feel they are linked to it because of their ancestors!. the americans and brits did that stuff because it was their government

the nazi party was not acting on behalf of the government, but of a dictator who gained more and more power (and the flag being a symbol of this)

I think it's because it's such a recent event that is still kinda fresh on people's minds!. Plus it was something that took the lives of so many people!.

I know in America, in the southern proportion of the country, you're looked down upon for having a rebel flag (the symbol for the Southern Confederacy)!. I think it's the same around the Germans!. It's just something they're not proud of at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe it is because the Holocaust was an 'organised' nass killings!. I put organised in brackets because of the existing arguments of how organised or planned it was!. But you get my drift!. It was mass genocid, with the aim at wiping out whole races and groups of people, such as the gypsies and homosexuals!. The american slave trade was cruel yes, but it wasn't a programme aimed at wiping a whole race out like the holocaust!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A mass murder is nt colonization!.
The colonies were the beginning of the U!.S!., and without them, Patriots wouldn't have revolted because there weren't any patriots!. maybe the UK is proud to have been part of the birth of such seccussful country!.
also, slavery was bad, but not mass murder!. Americans still can't keep slaves and we made appropriate laws to "make nice" Germany didn't have the oppurtunity because all of the opressed people that survived fled the country!.
