What caused the Civil War!? - The Civil War was caused by the supporters of King Charles I (Cavaliers) conflicting with the supporters of the Long Parliament (Roundheads)!.

Why did the South, North, and West have different interests!? - The North tended to be more sympathetic towards the cause of the monarchy, viz!. Charles I's flight to the North!. The South tended to be influenced by London and thus was more sympathetic to the Parliamentary cause!. The West tended to be an industrial area but was more removed from the war!.

Why did the South not feel that the differences could be worked out peacefully!? - The Parliament demanded that Charles I no longer rule; some factions sought to maybe have him returned to the throne as a figurehead, while others simply wanted him executed!.

Why did popular sovereignty fail in Kansas!? - At the time of the Civil War, Kansas was not a state as the United States was not yet founded, nor was it a colony--and thus that territory had no strong ties to Great Britain!. Therefore, their feelings about Charles I's sovereignity are moot, unless the Kansa and the Osage tribes had opinions on the matter!. No historical record exists, however!.

Did the abolitionists help or hinder the cause of the Union!? - Abolition was not a matter of the Civil War, although significant concerns re!. Catholicism and the abolishment of anti-Catholic rhetoric in the government did exist!.

Why did Lincoln’s election signal the South to secede!? - No historical figure named Lincoln exists for this time period (Saint Hugh of Lincoln was much earlier); as Charles I was executed and the Act of Union was passed, the South Counties never seceded!. The monarchy was restored, however, in 1661!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The US Civil war was caused by the South's Aristocratic leadership's inability/unwillingness to completely abandon their way of life, which was based on slave labor of blacks from africa & their descendants!.

They saw no moral reason to end slavey; and as such felt threatened by Abolitionists- who were out to basically destroy their way of life or at least their profit margins, especially when they became elected to national office & the presidency!.

Their fear caused them to assault US Forces at Fort Sumpter, sparking the US Civil War (which many Southerners call the war of N!. Aggression- despite the simple fact that they fired first)!.

The Union was helped by Abolitionists in the long term!. Their striving for what is right is exactly what America is supposed to be about!. And while it is still a long process to reeducate the South on the Equality of ALL people; it is progressing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The war broke out over Secession!. Lincoln won the 1860 election with maybe 40% of the vote, and the South said "WTF!? I'm out of here!" Then Lincoln got pissed and sent in the troops!. About halfway through the war, he decided that "preserving the union" wasn't a catchy enough reason to have thousands die, so he switched over to the slavery issue!.

The South felt exactly the way democrats would feel if Bush got a third term!. They'd probably secede to!. The main reason for secession was that the South felt threatened!. Lincoln was a radical from a party whose platform called for the destruction of the Southern way of life!. In the shoes of a Southerner, they had no choice but to leave!. then to further complicate things, they weren't allowed to just leave peacefully!.

Kansas: the reason popular sovereignty failed was because thousands of abolitionists swarmed in to vote!. So Missouri sent in their own voters!. Soon kansas was full of people from Missouri and yankees!. You even had a small shooting war taking place there!.

Abolitionists definitely hurt the union!. They caused the South to feel threatened, and that increased tension!. That tension boiled over in 1861!.

Anything else!?

Sorry Jared, but if you yankees hadn't been trying to resupply Sumter we never would have fired!. You invaded CSA waters, an act of war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
