Question: What is a Boston Fishwife!? Term used in the play & movie 1776!.!?
I know what a fishwife is but the idea of a Boston !.!.!.!. is it from 1770's!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

1776 is amazing!. but anyway!.

a fishwife is literally a woman who works with/sells fish, but also is used as a derogatory term, implying that a woman is "coarse and shrewish"!. i don't remember specifically how it was used in 1776, but it was probably just a generic insult!. i suspect they use "Boston" because at the time, Boston was a major port, and in the northern/new england colonies fishing was a big trade, so there were probably a lot of fishwives in Boston!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fishwives were famous for bad tempers and foul language!. I don't know if the Boston ones were worse than the norm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
