Question: How could the Romans just ADD months to their calendars!?!!?!!?

"The first Roman Calendar (introduced in 535BC) had 10 months, with 304 days in a year that began in March!. January and February were added only later!. In 46BC, Julius Caesar created "The Year of Confusion" by adding 80 days to the year making it 445 days long to bring the calendar back in step with the seasons!."1 They would occasionally add a month to make the calendar more accurately reflect the actual length of the year, the seasons and it probably also increased some politicians term in office!.2

The Julian reform made most of the months longer but it was still inaccurate!.

Pope Gregory XIII said that the day after October 4, 1582 would be October 15, 1582 because Easter was coming earlier and earlier in the year and he changed some of the leap year rules!.

Our calendar is still inaccurate but we will have to wait another 3000 years before we will be off by a day!.

Even now there is some interest in changing our present calendar system!.3

It is the kind of monster that strives for accuracy!.

Interestingly, I was once staying with a friend who was reading a new book written in German the theory of which was that 3 centuries of our history never happened and his starting proof was that the Pope added too few days to make the calendar work properly!. I will let someone else do the math!. Unfortunately I can't find a cite for this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For something like 95% of the Roman population it made no difference whatsoever!.

Most people at the time had little interest in, or need to know about the calendar!. As long as they knew when to plant and when to harvest the rest really didn't matter to them!.

Slaves didn't get days off, neither did farmers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not monsters!. Just ignorant people!. Besides, they didn't add days!. Just re-subdivided them!. But they got the proportions wrong!. For this, calling them "monsters" is extreme!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What's the difference!? A year is a year!.!.!. 365 days!. Who cares how it's divided up!? Different cultures have different calendars!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you can think Pope Gregory for that and not the Romans as we follow the Gregorian calender in the west!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

because caeser wasnt happy with a little calender and wanted more months so they could put more roman women on them in their scanty togas!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
