Hitler began making speeches going against the Treaty of Versailles, which blamed the Germans for causing ww1!. He also started talking about how Germany deserved the land they had lost during the ww1!. Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933 which is when he began to build up the Nazis!. In 1936 Hitler marched his army to take over the Rhineland!. Both Britian and France ignored Germany because they did not want to start another war!. Hitler then went after Austria and the Sudetenland (part of Czechoslovakia)!. After attacking theses to places Hitler promised Britian and France that it was the last of the land he was going to take!. He then made a pact with the Soviet Union(Nazi-Soviet Pact) saying that they will both secretly invade Poland and split is up equally!. Hitler went behind the Soviets back and took over Poland without their knowledge!. The Soviets then joined the Allies side and the war started in Europe!. Italy wanted to re-create the Roman Empire in North Africa and Greece, the Germans wanted to expand to the East, taking Western Russia so as to have an ample food supply and to create a European Empire (the "Thousand Year Reich"), and Japan was trying to create an Empire in Aisa that they terms the "Greater East Asia Co=prosperity Sphere" which would drive the European powers (and the US) out, leaving them in charge and in control of vast natural resources!. The Western Democracies (primarily the British and the US) wanted to block these moves!. In Europe, Britian and French interests in North Africa and the Mid-East were directly opposed to Italian expansion, and both were allied with Poland, which the German attacked in 1939!. In the Pacific, the US and British were both trying to protect their interests in China (which the Japanese had invaded in 1931) and Britain was also trying to protect its interest in India and Burma!.
