Question: Does anyone know of any coincidences or miracles that helped the allies win ww2!?
I'm thinking of stuff like the German bombers coming over and it suddenly getting really cloudy so they couldn't find targets!. Or like when the weather was abnormally calm for the D Day landings etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There were a lot of instances!.!.!.

Say, for example, the Dunquerque evacuation!. 300,000 allied troops were trapped on the beach with hitler's panzers advancing inexorably!. For some reason, hitler ordered a halt and let the Luftwaffe finish the job (which wasn't effective because of cloudy skies and RAF fighter cover)!. This led to the evacuation of the allied army to britain largely intact!.

Another is hitler's drive to moscow!. If the autumn rains hadn't come early, hitler's tanks wouldn't be bogged down in mud and would be cozy settling in moscow for the winter!. The problem is it didn't reach moscow!. After about getting within 30 km of the Kremlin, the lead panzer groups halted!. they were battered by the harsh russian winter and the harsh russian army afterward!. Moscow was safe!.

The battle of midway is another worth mentioning!. In the opening phase of the battle, the Japanese seemed to be winning!. They shot down almost all the bombers the US navy sent against them!. Total victory was in sight!. But a risky all-out attack by American bombers sunk 4 Imperial carriers - all in six minutes!. Imagine changing the course of history in six minutes!.

these are just a few instances, by the way!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

One person's miracle is another person's synchronicity is another person's "good luck" is another person's preparation!.

War is full of things you could call miracles, from the personal all the way on up to the strategic!. The weather clearing suddenly so the D-Day invasion to take place!. The guys on either side of you being blown up by a mortar shell while you remain untouched!. Winter coming early during Germany's invasion of Russia (so their advance became bogged down in mud when it then thawed)!. German bombers ditching bombs on London (so Churchill reciprocates by bombing Berlin so Hitler tells Goering to switch from attacking RAF bases to bombing civilian centers--thus ensuring the RAF will survive, Operation Sea Lion won't occur and Hitler will turn his sights to Russia where he will lose the war)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

At the Battle of the Bulge the Germans took advantage of the bad weather, much fog, to push forward!. Even though the Allies had major air superiority at that point in the war, the foggy weather stopped them taking to the air to attack the advancing SS Divisions in the Ardenes!.

Hi S81!.
It can appear that there are miracles all around us!. The power to appreciate even the smallest coincidence is one of the many choices we are given in this life, and many miracles start out exactly that way!.
While your examples of miracles are very good!. My examples are of men in life and death situations who survived and believe their survival was down to a Miracle!.
Sergeant Major, Reg Seekings, was part of an SAS Squadron in France!.He shot in the head by a German bullet!. He won the Distinguished Conduct!. With a bullet lodged in his head, he walked back to camp with the back of his battledress soaked in blood!. They couldn't operate on him in case it did more damage, so he carried the bullet in his head, right through the mission!. He survived by saying it was a miracle!.
Most of the men who survived the bombing of the USS Oklahoma and Arizona in Pearl Harbor put their survival down to miracles!.
There are thousands of other such stories!. If you would like to read more, the following sites are worth exploring;

yes - the enigma code was broken because a polish officer brought it from his defeated country to england and it was cracked at blechley park in london - wherever the germans were sending u boats the allies could pounce on them- the commies knew of hitlers moves on kursk and countered him - the allies knew of his positions around normandy and france - also a second was hitler was in a deep sleep during d day he would not be woken and if he had he could have swept the allies from the beaches as he had so many troops and tanks inland in reserve - the weather was very good for the d day landingsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think that it was a miracle that hitler decided to change his mind about his tactics when he did!. It is said that at the point Hitler decided to stop bombing the RAF etc in preparation for an invasion, England was 1 day off being defeated!. However Hitler changed his mind and gave England time to prepare for his next attack!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just want to point out that the previous answer is ridiculous!. Even though I Iove having a go at Americans as much as the next person, if the person who answered that question knew anything about History, they would know that we would probably have lost World War 2 if the Americans hadn't joined!. In fact the miracle you SHOULD write about is how lucky we were that the Japanese didn't realise how stupid it was to bomb Pearl Harbour!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When the BEF had to be evacuated from Dunkirk the sea was almost totally flat and calm!. The successful evacuation this facilitated arguably kept Britain able to pursue the war to eventual victory!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
