Why!? The Spanish american empire relied on the asiento system, which is the use of merchant to trade slaves to their colonies!. The Spanish colonies in the New World(South America)relied on the slaves for sugar production, harvesting & planting!. So the desire for slave labor increased to produce more, quicker and gain more profit!.
