Because the League of Nations said if another nation was attacked we would automatically send troops to ensure their territorial integrity we did not want to do thatWww@QuestionHome@Com

In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson was toying with the idea of the concept of a League of Nations and other ideas that were brought up in his 14 points!.

However there was alot of jealousy that in going to Europe that Wilson had not encouraged any bi-partisin support across congress and the senate!.

So when it came time to ratify the Treaty of Versailles in the Senate - which is the job of the Senate to ratify foreign treaties, those senators - both democrat and republican that felt rejected by Wilson's visit to Europe, voted against the treaty!.

Wilson was very surprised when the U!.S did not ratify it - but a lack of communication and support is what really let it down!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The US was not happy with the heavily punitive Versailles Treaty!. It was felt that punishing Germany so harshly would only make things worse!. also the League of Nations was an over ambitious, but ultimately powerless organization!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We still wanted to be isolated!. also Wilson has the stroke in Colorado before the vote!. The senate just faught in one world war and was afraid of being pushed into another one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The League of Nations was basically an Entangled Alliance!. Entangling Alliances were one of the 4 main causes of WWI along with imperialism, militarism, and nationalismWww@QuestionHome@Com

They were extremely isolationist!. They didn't want to be pulled into Europe's problems every time they went to war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
