Abraham lincolnWww@QuestionHome@Com

Slavery still continues around the world!.!.

A man named William Wilberforce also helped with ending slavery in the British Empire!.!.

"Wilberforce supported the campaign for complete abolition of slavery, and continued his involvement after his 1826 resignation from Parliament due to ill health!. The campaign eventually led to the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833 which abolished slavery in most of the British Empire!. Wilberforce died just three days after hearing that the passage of the Act through Parliament was secure!."

Just a note -- Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery only in those states that joined the Confederacy in rebellion!. At the end of the Civil War, slavery was still legal in some states who were loyal to the Union!. Kentucky, for one!. It took the US Congress to declare slavery was illegal in the US!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Did you know, there are still slaves in some countries!. If you mean US slavery, then it was Abraham Lincoln !.

Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States, successfully led his country through its greatest crisis, the Civil War, only to be assassinated less than a month after the war's end!.

Before his election as President, Lincoln was a lawyer, a member of the United States House of Representatives, and an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Senate!. As an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery in the United States,

Lincoln won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected president later that yearWww@QuestionHome@Com

In the United States:
Abraham Lincoln was not the person to end slavery!. It was actually the Congress who ended slavery>
the emancipation proclamation had no power behind it because at the time The Confederacy was its own country!. that would be like the united states saying beans are illegal in mexico (im mexican i can say that)
The congress was the one to pass the 11th amendment which officially gave all peoples their freedoms!.
Never let anyone tell you that President Lincoln freed the slaves!. We say that because in our heads we like to link things to one person or thing!. Just like most of us dont know our current congressmen, it is easier to say the patriot act was passed by president bush when in fact the congress passed it!.
Once again we americans have no idea how our country is run!.
for all you that said lincoln freed slaves, im sorry but you are wrongWww@QuestionHome@Com

Abraham Lincoln is often referred to as "The Great Emancipator" and yet, he did not publicly call for emancipation throughout his entire life!. Lincoln began his public career by claiming that he was "antislavery" -- against slavery's expansion but not calling for immediate emancipation!. However, the man who began as "antislavery" eventually issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves in those states that were in rebellion!. He vigorously supported the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery throughout the United States, and, in the last speech of his life, he recommended extending the vote to African Americans!.

Abraham Lincoln's position on freeing the slaves was one of the central issues in American history!. Though Abraham Lincoln was one of the people identified as most responsible for the abolition of slavery, his position evolved over the years, and while he early went on record as being personally opposed to slavery, he did not initially take the position that it was appropriate that federal laws be passed to abolish the practice in states where it already existed!. Most Americans agreed that slavery had to expand to maintain its political position, and by ending that expansion, Lincoln proposed to put slavery on a course of gradual extinction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

People come on, we all know the context the asker means, try being helpful instead of annoying!.

Quick note to a previous person who answered this: JoyHickey, you're just as idiotic as the other's on here!. The Civil War was not ended because of the Emancipation Proclamation!. The Proclamation was created in Sept!. of 1862 and took effect Jan!. 1, 1863, there were 2 more years of war after that!. Try researching something before you call other people idiots and end up as one yourself!.

Now then, onto the question at hand!. As I said, the Emancipation Proclamation that was created by President Abraham Lincoln in September of 1862, took effect on January 1, 1863!. It stated: "That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom!."

This did not actually give freedom to the slaves outright as many people think!. The way the document was worded stated that slaves in the areas in rebellion against the U!.S!., who were back in U!.S!. control were free!. To simplify, only the areas of the Confederate states, where the Union Army had defeated them and taken control, were now free from slavery!.

So to be technical, it was actually Congress who freed the slaves when they passed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution!. The Amendment was enacted on December 6, 1865, almost 8 months after Lincoln was assassinated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It wasn't Abe Lincoln!. It was Congress, after the Civil War, by enacting Civil Rights Acts and the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution!. Lincoln only "emancipated" the Black soldiers who served in the Confederate army, and he held the Union to be a more important thing than slavery!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No one yet, theres still slavery!.

Two kinds, old time slavery (the one you are propably referring to) and modern time slavery!.

Modern time slavery is that you choose your master (factory) and you are slaved only for some certain amount of hours a day, but you try not to work for your master and see the result!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it was Abraham Lincoln!. Well, the Union army i guess!.
