""Sir Maurice Hearne Byers was born Nov 10 1917 and died in 1999!.
Sir Maurice was Solicitor-General of Australia from 1973 to 1983, and a Member of the Executive Council of the Law Council of Australia from 1966 to 1968!. He was also President of the NSW Bar Association from 1966 to 1967, and from 1965 to 1966!.

"Sir Maurice was one of Australia's leading constitutional lawyers, and it is very sad to see his passing" said the President of the Law Council, Mr Fabian Dixon!. "His dedication to the Law, and to the legal profession, is no better exemplified than by his terms of service on both the Law Council and the NSW Bar Association!.

"Additionally, his contribution to the Commonwealth of Australia as its Solicitor-General was immense, and that contribution is widely recognised throughout the legal profession today!.

"Sir Maurice made a great contribution to the Law, the legal profession, and Australia in so many ways!. He also had a strong reputation as being a man with great generosity of spirit and kindness!."

Sir Maurice was Chairman of the Australian Constitutional Commission from 1985 to 1988, and the Leader of the Australian Delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law in 1974, and then from 1976 to 1982!. He also served as a Member of the Australian National University Council from 1975 to 1978!.
He was admitted to the Bar in 1944, and made a QC in 1960!. ""
