Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: depends just which Persian empire you're even interested in!. The Achaemenids were those who fought against the Greek !. They were more or less founded by Cyrus the Great around 576BC and were destroyed by Alexander at Gaugamela in 331!. Then there was the Sassanid empire, founded in 226, after the former Hellenistic Asian provinces broke from the yoke of Rome, that lasted till 636, when Arab caliph Abu Bakr conquered Persia!. Later, there were other dynasties, such as the Safavids when Persia had recovered from the Mongol conquest and Turkish occupation (they lasted roughly from 1500 to 1700)!.
