The civil war started because the South and North could not settle the issue of slavery!. For example, Abolitionists and slave holders battled in kansas for control of it!. Because the Kansas-Nebraska act stated that the issue of slavery be decided by the ppl!. Otherwise known as popular soverignty!. So, Proslavery ppl and anti-slavery ppl killed eachother for control of Kansas and Nebraska!.
That is just one reason why the south secceded!. Get books on the issue!. It is extremely hard to explain why the civil war started!. Look it up or ask a history major or something!. Im only 13Www@QuestionHome@Com

the reason for the war wasn't essiantilly for the release of the slaves! but for the slave states (conferderate states) wanted to seperate from the north! That would cut into the slave money! The south was the economic strength of the united states! so if they seperated then the north wouldn't be able to tax the cotton crop! They just threw the slave factor in as punishment to the states that wanted to successed!. So basically if you want to sepearate we will cut out your economic growth by stopping your slaves and hurting your economy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
