Because Japan's goal was to rule over the rule in WW2!. They thought themselves as descendants from the Sun Goddess!. Japan at that time had already control most of Asia and southeast Asia!. The idea was Hitler would control Europe to Eastern US and Japan would control all of Asia and western half of the US!. In addition, they have not had a major defeat in wars and so they didn't think the US would be a threat to them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Japan started to expand it's empire in the 1930's!. This quest for expansion and the manner in which they took was denounced by the US much the same as Germany's expansionism in Europe!. Japan, needed access to the rich rubber and rice fields in southeast Asia to support this expansion!. The US Navy located in Hawaii and America's presence in The Philippines were obstacles which needed to be eliminated!. Thus the attack on Hawaii!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
