William Calley led a group of U!.S!. soldiers who killed a large number of Vietnamese villagers suspected of helping the communists!. Many of the victims were women and children!. He was brought up on charges for killing these people not clearly known to be enemies!. This led to further disillusionment with the war in U!.S!. public opinion!. It was a culmination of the frustration with the war - never being able to tell who the enemy really was!. Some Vietnamese women and children had killed American soldiers taken unaware!.
