In German, Blitzkrieg means lightning war (Blitz-Krieg)!.

Blitzkrieg was named so because it included surprise attacks, "Lighting War" rapid advances into enemy territory, with coordinated massive air attacks, which struck and shocked the enemy as if it was struck by lightning!.
