WWII was Total WAR!. The economy of the US was completely transformed to provide the supplies, weapons etc that was required!. People grew victory gardens to provide themselves with fresh food, kids collected aluminum for the war effort!. Absolutely every member of society was effected!. And people volunteered to serve in the military and support services!. And Japan attacked us and then Germany declared War! And we won and were very confident in our ability!.

Now Vietnam, they didn't attack us, the did not declare war on us!. The US was totally against colonialism such as the relationship with France and Vietnam but the Gvmt supported France anyway!. Well needless to say, there were not many volunteers, the draft was instituted, there was resistance to the draft, and then the Hippies came, and drugs, and free love!. There was draft dodging, etc!. This was a war started by old men that expected young men to fight it - predominantly poor young men that could not afford to avoid the draft by enrolling in college!. And we lost - and we lost confidence in our ability to wage war and people became more suspicious of the gvmt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
