Soldiers used single-shot rifles, handguns and cannons!. Gatling guns were also used (machine type gun with multi barrels and fired many rounds of ammo in quick succession!.)
The South were so poorly armed they even used farm implements such as rakes, hoes, pitchforks, etc!.
PS the Northern soldiers were known as "Yankees" or "the Union", and the Southerners were known as "Rebels" or Confederates (So, not all Americans are "Yanks")Www@QuestionHome@Com

The north made very effective use of monkeys as suicide bombers attacking the confederate fortresses!. The loss of these forts, allowed the North to mobilize their skateboard soldiers who further penetrated the south!.
