Question: Did the USA ever experience "Pax Romana" like ancient Rome did!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Probably not!.

Pax Romana, as I understand it, was a lengthy period of time where Rome had relative peace and little expansion !. !. !. this probably due to to the empire already being fairly large!.

As the US, contrary to what many believe, is not an expansionist empire (the westward expansion could be argued, but I digress) and therefore there was really little to do in the expansion department!. The peace side of things is where things don't necessarily indicate Pax Romana-like qualities!. Though there have been relatively few wars, military action of varying degrees has been more or less going on from the beginning !. !. !. whether that be in response to piracy during the early years of the republic or protection of American interests in various and sundry areas of the globe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pax Romana was not peace but peace as imposed by Rome on the conquered nations!. It involved taking hostages and killing them if the local tribe failed to obey Rome!. I'm not sure that the USA has ever enforced an exact Pax Romana, but they have definitely used economic black mail to get their way with "friendly" nations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Pax Americana would generally be known as the period directly after WWII until the present, Although I would argue that it has ebbed after 2000!.

From 1945 onward American wealth and military power extended world wide there are military bases within striking distance of most countries in the world!. Graham Barrett wrote an interesting book on this subject a few years ago which would be a good reference if you were writing a paper!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In reality, no!. The United States has never ceased to expand military power!. The only period of time that might come close to this is the roaring 1920's after WWI!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

During the 90's under the Clinton administration!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
