The end of World war 2. To date, thankfully, it has been the largest and most concentrated period of hostility in mankinds history. I have seen footage and read intensively on this period and the hardships endured by so many people over a period of 6 years beggars belief. It is fair comment to say that the world, collectively, breathed a sigh of relief when the conflict finally drew to a close. I am of British origin, and it is pretty much accepted that the British, as a nation, were at their very best, in a human sense, during and following this horrific period. Adversity draws us together, irrespective of colour, creed, or nationality. Watch the archive footage of ordinary people celebrating the end of world war 2 in London, New York, Paris etc and you will see genuine human joy, in my opinion, unmatched since. Folk were just happy that the mindless dying had finally ceased. Pure magic.

Maybe I wish I knew Joan of Arc.

My ancestors came from Scotland and they used to come over the English border and raid - sheep and cattle stealing. One of them was caught and hanged by the English, I would like to have been there so I could have kicked the hangman in the shins!
Or watch the signing of the end of the civil war between the North and South by Lee and Grant.

I've sometimes imagined being a part of the French Underground Resistance during the time of Nazi Germany's occupation of France. Probably because I admire what they did in assisting those in harms way and in assisting those fighting against Germany. I love Germany in this day and age, but hated what it represented during WW2.
When it comes to a singular event, I think I would like to have witnessed the declaration of the end of WW2.
I'd also have liked to have been in Berlin when the wall came down.

The present historical event which is unffolding in front our eyes, the once in a life time event in our world that we are witnessing without stepping out of our door.

Not a lot of people can capture this event but if they think hard will surely see it unfolding.

This event had be captured and presented in a stage by stage unfolding orders, and proofs that opposing particles in atom meet - annihilate.

A Greek soldier at the battle at Marathon, and survived . They lived a lifetime as hero's and there light never dimmed.

Some point during the life of Alfred the great. Either his victory against the Danes at the battle of Eddington, his time spent hiding in the Somerset marshes or his time with Asser his biographer, arguing the toss over the finer points of religion and kingship.

Alfred was the founder of the English nation and thus shaped the future of the British isles as a whole. Not only did he safeguard the Anglo-Saxon heritage, but also sought to conclude a peaceful co-existence were possible with the Danes, Welsh and Scots.

He also began to rebuild both religious and cultural education as well as increasing the popularity of the new Shepard's game of 'crique' or cricket and invented the jam scone.... Er OK. the last bit is made up, but the rest is true.

The birth of Hitler.

Because my father was the radio officer and I have the original orders which he talked about at length when i was a child. I have the signatures of all the survivors and would have dearly loved to have met some of them.

WW2 definately, was a very difficult time but a time to be really proud of your country

I'd love to have been a Russian Cossack, why? because of the passion in their dancing and partying, I'd love to be able to dance like that.

Christ's appearance in the Americas shortly after his resurrection.

Why? It brought peace to the land for generations.
