The 1864 Siege of Fort Morgan was part of the battle for Mobile Bay, Alabama in the U.S. Civil War. The Union navy hit the fort with artillery fire constantly for two weeks until the Confederate troops surrendered. The battle was fought to help shut down the Confederate port of Mobile Bay. (one of the two remaining Confederate ports in August 1864, along with Savannah, GA)

Wikipedia has an entry about the battle.
