Um... there is a genocide going on in Sudan that is chillingly similar to the Holocaust. It's known as the Darfur conflict, or Darfur genocide, and if you haven't heard of it you've been living under a rock. It could be prevented by a lot of things, including UN action against the Sudanese government. I also think the United States and NATO have a responsibility to take action, they seem to think they can police the world, so why not do it when it's actually needed?

There was also a genocide in Bosnia in the 1990s during the wars there after the breakup of Yugoslavia when the Cold War ended, and several cases of genocide during the Cold War in Africa and Asia.

That being said, none of those situations were close to the horror of the Holocaust... but how can you really measure human suffering? By numbers?

Just think about what is going on at this very moment in the Sudan, Darfur, North Korea and Tibet to name a few places in the world.

Well, in other countries, it has happened. Like right now in Darfur, it is happening. The only reason that the world is letting it go on is becuase people aren't getting the information, nor are they caring because of this war in Iraq. The United Nations rather than just talking about it needs to actually do something. A way to prevent it from happening is to take action. Spread the word...anything will help

yes, the situation in Rwanda in the 90s the nearly wiped out a Entire social group in a week. also there could easily be a holocaust like situation if Iran got nuclear weapons because the have said they would "raze" the "holy land". wow don't wanna be in Jerusalem when that happens.

What would allow it? Greed and inhumanity, what could prevent it. Education, tolerance and humanity towards each other which is a great dream but not probable.

yes and it is. Rwanda, Kurds in Iraq. What allows it to happen? The same as what allowed it to happened before. Indifference and appeasement. We were indifferent to what Hitler was doing because it wasnt happening here and we didnt want to make him mad, so we appeased him. Same today, we dont care what is happening elsewhere unless it affects us and we dont want to step on toes. The one time we do IE IRAQ, everyone gets ticked off and says we are in it for the oil or what ever. What would prevent it? We stop being so selfish and ignorant. Most people dont even know where the states are on a map of the united states let alone what is happening outside of our country. We only care when other important people care IE DARFUR we only care because Brad Pitt and George Clooney care, not because what is happening makes upset. We need to stop thinking about ourselves and think of others

Holocaust or Shoah actually applies only to one period in history that is the extermination of all jews by the Nazis. That is wiping out an entire people just because of their religion. I think you mean genocide. Of course, genocides occur all the time around the world, buyt the systematic extermination of an entire people like in the Holocaust has not actually happened since.
