Okay, internment is confining or imprisioning groups of people associated with eachother with no trial. The most known internment camps were that of the Jews that the Nazis imposed, and the Japanese internment camps. As far as Australian internment camps; Germans living in Australia during WWI were put into internment camps because Germany was to blame for the War.
German schools had to close. German was forbidden in government schools. Many Australians believed all propaganda lies about German Australia. Some German Australians were put into internment camps simply because an Australian (perhaps a business rival, personal rival, etc..) had said that the German Australian had said something negative about England, even if he hadn't said it..
Australia even banned German beer.
