Question:Project due!!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Project due!!

do you want them in order or do you just want 10 no matter when they happened???? i'll go with them in order:

1) the election of lincoln in 1860
2) the secession of the south
3) the firing at fort sumter, 1861
4) first battle of bull run
5) the taking of forts henry and donelson- opened the way for the taking of nashville
6) battle of antietam
7) the taking of vicksburg
8) gettysburg
9) shermans march to the sea after the retaking of chattanooga
10) lee's surrender at appomattox
you could also throw in there, the appointment of grant to the command of the army of the potomac, the death of gen. thomas jackson, gen. picketts charge at gettysburg, the reelection of lincoln in 1864, the gettysburg address, the emancipation proclamation, the battle between the union ship monitor and the confederate virginia, the taking of atlanta. this is only a partial list of what could be considered important moments of the civil war. there are more but this is a good start.

1-10: Battle of Gettysberg

I'm not an expert and this is not definitive, but....

1. The attack on Fort Sumter (started the war)
2. The surrender at Appomattox (ended the war)
3. The first Battle of Bull Run (ensured a long war, gave the South legitimacy and confidence)
4. The Gettysburg Address (Lincoln makes slavery a key issue with long lasting results)
5. Battle of Gettysburg (destroys all Southern hopes of victory by its own influence of events, prevents other powers recognising Davis's government)
6. Appointment of Grant as commander Ary of the Potomac (finally the North puts a competent and determined leader in command of its main army)
7. Sherman's march to the sea (presages modern, 'total' war, creates long-standing bitterness).
8. John Brown's attack on Harper's Ferry in October 1859 (prior to the war) highlighting slavery issues.
9. Capture of Vicksburg and effective division of the South.
10. Re-election of Lincoln during the war reinforced Northern resolve.
