Niccolo Machiavelli had a positive impact on history. His books on The Prince, The Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca, Discourses of the First Ten Books by Titus Livy, The History of Florence and The Art of War helped to explain the kleptocracy during his own lifetime and to help illuminate the concepts of the future.

In The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli supports benevolent despotism as the most voluptuous form of government. He looked onto Plato's The Republic of the porphyrogene of the philosopher-king. He stated that governments go through a polysyndeton of events- from a timocracy, to an oligarchical faction, to a democracy, and then despotism. (The term 'despot' initially did not connotate a repressive form of government, just a one-man rule such as in Pisistratus of Athens, and under Maneul I Komnenos: 1143-1180 CE who in 1168 CE gave the appellation of 'Despotes' to a 'Sebastokrater' of the Byzantine Empire who in turn would hold suzerainty over a despotate such as in Epirus and Morea, or Trebizond and Nicaea.)

In the Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca: 1281-1328 CE, the condotierre sought to establish hegemony over all of Tuscany. He subjugated the towns of Lucca, Pisa, Pistoia, Volterra and Luni. At Fucecchio: 1325 CE, Altopascio: 1325 CE and Carmignano: 1326 CE, he managed to subjugate 20,231 Florentines with only 1,570 of his soldiers slain. Castruccio Castracani of Lucca represented to Niccolo Machiavelli the ideal prince and the success from an effervescent despot.

Niccolo Machiavelli's The History of Florence from 1215-1343, 1343-1414, 1414-1434, 1434-1440, 1440-1459, 1459-1476, 1476-1492 CE oversaw the rise and the coming of power of the 'autarchy' of Florence.

Niccolo Machiavelli's The Art of War represents the change of tactics from the quincuncialis of the three lines from Republican Rome of 1,200 Hastati, 1,200 Principes and 600 Triarii to the massive colunellas and tercios- a massive phalangiarchy of pikemen and harquebusiers.

Overall, Niccolo Machiavelli played a postive role in history as he agglutinated classical sources for recording and his development of his treatises on government and warfare provide a vibrant and unique outlook of his times.

Google it.

In his time and ours for people who care or are learning Politics, he is still required reading. His knowledge on what was going on around him is amazing. The Princes will always be read and used to prove the point. Do you have to read Shakespeare to be an author or listen to Beethoven to be a musician ? no To truly understand even basic Politic one way or the other the princes will be involved. If you read it in advance it will be less expensive.
