One major way, at least in the United States and Great Britain, was working to gain the vote through the "suffragette" movement. Largely using peaceful means, such as petitions and rallies, but occasionally through more forceful means, such as civil disobedience, they urged that women should be able to vote in national elections. Once they were able to vote, they were better able to influence social and political affairs.

When the civil war was going on, people were dying at a fast rate. Women were used to fill in jobs for buisiness, child care and agriculture. That gave women more knowledge. After the civil war, some women were very racists. They argued that they were more important that he black race. Some men were racists too and supported them. Many more women joined the movement, because they knew it was a time that the American government has changed. They argued, and the women are really great at nagging.
