Position:Home>History> I'm Taking A Survey For a History Class - Do You Know....?

Question:I'm taking this survey for a history class. I know answering homework questions on here is annoying as most people need to do their own work - but this is a little different! I'm supposed to use the data to show how much the average American does and doesn't know about their country! Here we go:

a) Can you name the war in which the most amount of Americans died?

b) What was the shortest war that American fought in?

c) What war included Battle of the Bulge?

d) Name someone famous that fought in the American Revolution, The American Civil War, WWI, and WWII.

e) How did President Buchanan feel about Southern session?

f) What does the phrase, the "era of good feelings" refer to?

g) How did John Locke influence America?

h) What country's revolution was influenced by the American Revolution?

I know it's a lot - thanks for your help with my project!

B. Not sure. The First Gulf War only lasted a few weeks. I'm not certain how long the Quasi-War lasted. Right now I'd say the First Gulf War

C. WWII. European Theater. Late 1944.

D. American Revolution you've got George Washington, Nathaniel Green, Benedict Arnold, Horatio Gates as some of the better known names. A bit less well known would be Israel Putnam and John Stark. Civil War you've got U.S. Grant, R.E.Lee, W.T. Sherman, J.E.B. Stuart, G.B. McClellan, T.J. Jackson as some of the better known names. Personally, try looking up Richard Kirkland. He's also known as the Angel of Marye's Heights for the fact that he personally volunteered to carry water to the wounded enemy at Fredricksburg and he did so without a white flag. WWI you've got Pershing, MacArthur, Patton, Harry S. Truman, Eddie Rickenbacker as some of the better known names. But also try the Lafayette Escardrile with Raoul Lufbery and William Thaw. Now note MacArthur and Patton in WWI, where both men were junior officers in the American Expeditionary Force. They return as Generals in WWII. WWII also features Eisenhower, (Medal of Honor winner who became an actor after the war), George H.W. Bush Chester Nimitz, William F. Halsey as some of the better known names. For some lesser known names try Richard Bong, George H. Gay, Thomas MacGuire, Richard "Dick" Winters, John Thach, and Audie Murphy.
