History map ??

Question:can anyone tell me where to get a map of the world - which shows which empire owned which countries, for example a colour coded map which showed which countries the british empire owned in the 1900. also which has a colour coded key. thanx to all in advance !!

A basic Historical atlas from Rand- Mcnally concerning the Colonialism by Europe of Africa and the other parts of the world can be a significant help for you at any library.

I have a beautiful book of such maps, but alas I don't think it's any longer in print.
If you google specific empires, the Wiki article will frequently give you a map. For instance, they do a beautiful job with the 100years war; their animated map shows how territories changed hands through the course of that long war.
