WAKE UP !!!!

Actually the dynamics surrounding the Second Awakening are often forgotten in these modern times (2008). What is often overlooked is that the Second Great Awakening cooincided with advances in printing and new methods for gathering people together. With cheaper printing costs religious tracts flooded American Cities. And between the First Awakening and the Second the new Nation of America had been born and launched into precosious childhood. The First Great Awakening argued that God was the Determining factor and thus preordained matters, but with the birth of America, a can do spirit entered the mix and with the Second Great Awakening came the notion that God wanted people to apply themselves & their energies to resolving issues.
In other words the Second Great Awakening promoted the notion that people could take a proactive stance on issues, that God wanted an active stance from followers, that God wanted people to chart their own destinies to push for positive faith based change.
In large cities such as New York and Boston by the 1820s intio the 30s large halls were available for gatherings plus improved transportation made it easier for people to exchange ideas one on one to share their experiences their faith. When people from diverse commnities came together to share ideas they found common concerns and forged shared responces to the challenges facing them.
A final note about new methods for publication; both Whitman and Thoreau were able to find publication for their writing due to the dynamic changes in the publication world. Whitman found work as a writer because of the growth of Brooklyn New York.

Wow!
Talk about NERVE...

Not only do you demand that we do your homework for you - we apparently have to read your mind so WE know what YOU will or will not understand - then frame our answer to your homework appropriately.

Note where YOU state: "Here is the question ***I*** have to reply to..."
Not us, we, your Mom or Dad or classmate - YOU!

I anticipate that your teacher knows you far better than we do and any attempt by you to cheat like this will be easily discovered.
DO IT YOURSELF.

ha! ha ! hockey Fan, I agree.
My young friend if you have the time to sit on Yahoo answer waiting for us to do your homework then go to the internet to research your answer like every young school student does.
Good luck!

Woooo Hoooo Hockey Fan and Scooby. Good answers both. Youthful history student, if you had read your book and listened to your instructor during lectures you MIGHT have gotten the gist of your questions. Alas, I was like you at that time, and I am glad that I did my own work. I found that 8th grade history was something I had learned since 4th grade and if I had listened all those years I could have answered in the 8th grade. I finally got to college and realized that History was much much more than what they teach in US classrooms. It is unfortunate that the curriculum does not allow us to teach what happened in other areas of the world as well.
