Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Who were the two giants astride the Roman Republic who joined forces in the first triumvirate and then later fought each other?

Triumvirate means three men- these were Gaius Julius Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus.
Crassus got himself killed at Carrhae while fighting the Parthians (53 BC).
This broke the "balance" of the Triumvirate and led to civil war.
Caesar won

Caeser and Pompeii
