I am only familiar with writers Cooper and Irving, but what they did was create a distinctly American form of literature using American locations and creating unique American characters (for example, Cooper’s Natty Bumppo, and Irving’s Ichabod Crane). Such literature helped American’s realize a national identity quite separate from their colonial past. Appreciate your answer, but glad i'm not in 8th grade, sorry bud |
