Renaissance and the Middles Ages differ in many ways:

1) many thinkers start examining and criticizing the dominant religious ideas.

2) A new group of people appears in cities (first in Italy) which corresponds to what we call the middle class composed of artists, craftsmen, bankers, artisans, ...

3) An explosion in the arts (music, visual arts, like painting, sculpture, decoration).

renaissance means rebirth. so its more of a description where middle ages is more a specific time. i think renaissance had to do with a certain idea and way of life for some people. where middle ages is a far range of time for all over the world. but im not too sure. good luck!
