Question:so i need to write a paper on the south after the civil war. the question is why is the south's reconstruction considered a failure. 1st of all wut was reconstruction. PLEASE help ASAP im not good at history...thanxxxx

After the war, the Federal Government split up the Southern States into Military Districts. These districts were governed by Military Officers, and occupied by Northern troops. They controlled all aspects of life. They chose who would be the Judges, Lawyers, Police. They also served as the Judges, and Police.

Reconstruction failed because it was never implemented the way politicians such as Abraham Lincoln envisioned. He thought that it should be used as a means to mend the country. Unfortunately when he was assassinated the politicians who took over saw this as an opportunity to punish, and get even with the South for rebelling. It was a very horrible time for the citizens of the South. Millions of dollars were drained from the government budgets and absconded off by carpet baggers.

Was it a failure? or just difficult? I haven't heard of reconstruction being a failure. Everything settled down after a while. Different people from the North wanted different things.

What was Reconstruction? WHAT WAS RECONSTRUCTION? Have you even been paying attention in class for the past few weeks?

Edit: Forth Worth, you haven't heard of Reconstruction being a failure? So those 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments went along just dandily, right? Everyone obeyed them, and racism and the KKK went away, and they were able to vote, right?

hello. the south had many 'new' citizens who were formerly slaves. The North had this idea of 'Reconstruction.' Use your mind, and see what happens. good luck. ; {
